Error encountered when creating a new datasource

Hello:
I am new with the Reporting services.
When I tried creating a data source with the following connection string
with the following options:
Conenction Type: SQLServer or OLE DB
Connect using: credentials supplied by the user running the report)
Connection String:
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=sa;Initial
Catalog=Northwind;Data Source=venkat-wxp2;Use Procedure for Prepare=1;Auto
Translate=True;Packet Size=4096;Workstation ID=VENKAT-WXP2;Use Encryption for
Data=False;Tag with column collation when possible=False
I get the following error:
The underlying connection was closed: Could not establish trust relationship
with remote server.
I am on a standalone Windows 2003 Server named venkat-wxp2.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
VenkiTry a simple connection string first and see if it works.
Initial Catalog=Northwind;Data Source=venkat-wxp2;

I just de-installed SQL Server 2000 and installed SQL Server 2005 instead
and I was able to create a datasource.
Thanks.

Error Creating User on Database

Hi there,

I am setting up a database for the first time using SQL Server Express.

I have managed to create a database and create a table with data etc, all straight forward.

The problem I am having is when I come to creating a user for the database. I have the following users in there already, which I am guessing are put in by default:

dbo

guest

INFORMATION_SCHEMA

sys

When I try creating a new user via this screen I get the following error:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio Express

Create failed for User 'growstudiouser'. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.Smo)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.3042.00&EvtSrc=Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.Smo.ExceptionTemplates.FailedOperationExceptionText&EvtID=Create+User&LinkId=20476

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.Express.ConnectionInfo)

'growstudio' is not a valid login or you do not have permission. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 15007)

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=09.00.1399&EvtSrc=MSSQLServer&EvtID=15007&LinkId=20476

I was wondering if anybody could advise me as to what I'm doing wrong. I am typing in the name as "growstudiouser" and the login name as "growstudio".

Or am I just using the wrong section to do what I want. I'm trying to create a user so that when the database is built I can connect to it using a username and password that I have created. I'm not sure I'm taking to the correct route as there is no password option anywhere when creating a new user.

Thanks in advance,

Kevin

hi Kevin,

usually a database user is associated with a server's login, if you do not define a user as

USE tempdb; GO CREATE USER testUser WITHOUT LOGIN WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = dbo; GO DROP USER testUser;

where the database user is not associated with a server level principal, but this is another story..

so you should first create the server login as

USE master; CREATE LOGIN testLogin WITH PASSWORD = 'his strong password'; GO USE tempdb; GO CREATE USER testUser FOR LOGIN testLogin WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = dbo; GO DROP USER testUser; GO USE master; GO DROP LOGIN testLogin;

regards

|||

SQL Server follows two level security architecture. Login and User . Login is to access to the server. If you have login it does not mean that you have access to all the databases in that server. NO. To access database, the Login has to be mapped/added to the database as user. So , in your case what your are probably doing is you are not maping the user with a login . You should select a login while creating user

Error creating Subscription to reports

Hi all,

I am having a HUGE issue with SSRS, I am running SQL 2005 on Win 2003 server, the SQL uses SQL and windows permissions.

I have a datasource which stores it credentials securely on the server but for some reason when i try to subscribe to the report it errors saying

"Subscriptions cannot be created because the credentials used to run the report are not stored, or if a linked server the link is no longer valid."

Beats me but the credentials are stored, I am connecting using a user account which can run the report fine (This is proven).

I have SP1 installed, and have literally tried every last option in the book.

N.B i have read all the existing post about this and i seem to have a different issue, I am not using any paraeters in the report i am trying to test and i dont use anything like USR!USERID

Please help!

Andy

Anyone! I really need to get this running asap otherwise the upgrade and migration ot SSRS was pointless!!!|||

When you say “but the credentials are stored” what exactly you mean? Did you go to report properties and entered credentials and marked them to be stored in the database?

-Igor

|||when i say the credentials are stored i mean within the dataset, I have 1 shared dataset for a few reports and the dataset is set to store credentials securely on the server, I have set this in the designer (VS2005) and on the report server properties for the shared datasource but no joy.....|||

There might be one more less obvious reason - can you check server’s rsreportserver.config whether it has TimedSubscription and SnapshotUpdated event handlers configured? It should have something like this:

Lets take a look on the data source again. Please make sure: 1) Enable this data source check box is checked 2) Credentials stored securely in the report server radio button is selected 3) Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source check box is checked 5) Impersonate the authenticated user after a connection has been made to the data source check box in not checked 6) Windows integrated security radio button is not selected.

Andy,

Does your report have the User!UserID parameter? I have known a number of people complaint that when they use this parameter they are unable to create a subscription for their report and if they remove it then the subscription works. It's a shot in the dark but it's all I have so far.

Hello Andy

Have you got a solution? - please let us know if...

I experince the same issue AFTER stepping up from SQL 2005 Standard to Enterprise

Maybe it has something to do with some stale credentials residing from the restore

Does anybody know how to erase old passwords ?

Looking forward to hear from you

I experince the same issue AFTER stepping up from SQL 2005 Standard to Enterprise

Maybe it has something to do with some stale credentials residing from the restore

Does anybody know how to erase old passwords ?

Looking forward to hear from you

Error Creating Role on Cube

I am trying to create a role on a dimension and when I
click on the Test Role button, I get the following
error.
"Unable to process one or more commands. User-generated
error - the dimension "All Regions" has no valid member.
For more information, see your administrator."
Below is the mdx that I have entered on the All Regions
dimension of my role.
FILTER(
{[All Regions].[Region Name].Members},
(((STRTOTUPLE(MID(USERNAME,INSTR(1,USERNAME,"\")+1 ,128)),
[SFAccessre])=1)
AND ((STRTOTUPLE(MID(USERNAME,INSTR(1,USERNAME,"\")
+1,128)),[Cube Typere])=1)
AND ((STRTOTUPLE(MID(USERNAME,INSTR(1,USERNAME,"\")
+1,128)),[Dimension Typere])=1)))
I am able to browse the data of the All Regions
dimension. The dimensions SFAccessre, Cube Typere and
Dimension Typere are all in a Users Region dimension.
I use a similar MDX statement for security on another
dimension in my cube.
TIA
Hi,
When you execute the Test Role button, it takes in the Logged in User and
tries to apply the Security MDX on this. (Bascially the UserName function
would return the Logged in User's Information.)
Please check if the Logged in user has got corresponding records in the All
Regions Dimension.
Thanks,

Error creating Report Model based upon Oracle Database

In MS Visual Studio, when creating a new Report Model Project, after defining a datasource to an Oracle database (and successfully testing it), and a simple datasource view (1 table), when I click "Run" in Report Model Wizard, I receive the following error:
"ORA-02179: valid options: ISOLATION LEVEL { SERIALIZABLE | READ COMMITTED }"

It does not appear that one can create Report Models from an Oracle database (since the SQL being used to query the Oracle database cannot be edited and contains syntax errors?). Is this the case?

Thank you.

Models for Oracle are not currently supported.

BTW, what version of Oracle are you using?

Error creating Push subscription

Hi All,
I've had this problem for about 4 weeks, and I cna't seem
to find a solution! I'm trying to create a puch
subscription but get the following error when EM tries to
create the records:
FHQRY: Error 515: Cannot insert the value NULL into
column 'step_name', table 'msdb.dbo.sysjobsteps'; column
does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
I'm running SQL 2000 sp3a on Win 2k sp4. Also I've updated
to MDAC 2.8. I've tried using the stored procs but still
get the same error.
Any suggestions as to why this is happening?
I was told from a nother forum that this kind of problem
occurred with a SP update SQL 7.0 and MS isued a patch.
Should this patch be applied to my server if available? as
it the replication was working prior to a major rebuild.
thanks for any help
Davej
There are probably some missing messages in the sysmessages table in the
master database. Some of the messages are used for dexcriptiosn of the
various replication jobs. You can run a profiler trace while the push
subscription is being created and probably captiure which message is
missing.

error creating publication

When I am in my publications folder and I attempt to add
a new publication, I get... 'Error 5: [SQL-DMO]Code
Execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' after I
click next for the first time. If I click OK in the
error box, there are no publication databases listed.
HELP!!!!
Some times EM gets confused with all the caching it does.
Can you try to create the publication using the stored procedures?

Error creating programmatically a subscription with a parameter

Hi,
I'm using a script (through rs utility) to automate the creation of a
lot of subscriptions. Everything works fine if I don't use a parameter
in my report, but when I use it I always get the Error Code
"rsInvalidParameters", with the Error Message
"The value of parameter 'Parameters' is not valid. Check the
documentation for information about valid values"
What I'm doing is:
...
Dim parameter As New ParameterValue()
parameter.Name = "storeCod"
parameter.Value = "318"
Dim parameters(1) As ParameterValue
parameters(0) = parameter
then, when I call rs.CreateSubscription(), I pass the "parameters"
array as the last parameter of the method.
It seems weird because if I debug using the GetReportParameters method
to see exactly the parameter name and value, it's right, the name is
storeCod and one of the valid values is "318".
What can be wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Vinicius BellinoTry setting the DefaultValue for the parameter to that value.

||||Brad,
If I set the default value, it works, but I need to create
subscriptions with different parameter values for the same Report. I'm
reading a text file that defines which email must receive each
parameter value. This text file is something like:
ReportName;SharedScheduleName;
email1;StoreCode1;
email2;StoreCode2;
email3;StoreCode3;
So, I can't set the default parameter to StoreCode1 then create the
subscription to email1 then set to StoreCode2 and create a new
subscription to email2 because it won't work properly. Both
subscriptions will use the last default value set.
Do you happen to know what is going on? Because I think that setting
parameters programmatically is supposed to work well since it's a
"standard" need.
Thanks,

Error creating object SQL 7.0 using sp_oaCreate

Hi,
I am trying to troubleshoot an issue that came up suddenly on a SQL Server 7
that I support.
There is a sp that runs every five minutes and one of the functions in the
sp uses the sp_oaCreate to create and object which returns some free disk
space information. This sp has been working fine for over six years now and
all of a sudden, last w, it started failing. After some debugging, I foun
d
that the following call is failing with the attached error;
exec @.hr = sp_oaCreate 'CqDiskSpace.clsDiskSpace', @.ds OUTPUT
if @.hr <> 0
begin
set @.ErrMsg = 'Could not create CqDiskSpace.clsDiskSpace -- error ' +
cast(@.hr as varchar(15))
goto EH
end
And the error is:
Could not create CqDiskSpace.clsDiskSpace -- error -2147221164.
I've been searching google and other things and found some information on
this forum with a similar error but the odd thing is that it it was working
fine and there was nothing done to the system at that time.
I should mention that I can create the object from outside the stored
procedure with no problems. It is SQL Server 7.0 7.00.961.
Can anyone possibly point me in a direction of what to look for?
Thanks a bunchNever Mind,
Stopping and starting the SQL Server fixed the issue.
I should have started with that.
Thanks

Error creating new SSIS project

When I start a new project the BI environment cannot open the DTSX package and I get only one tab with the message:

"microsoft visual studio is unable to load this document. Object reference not set to an instance of an object".

I tried uninstall and install of BI Development Studio as well as a repair install of Visual Studio 2005. None of which helped. Please help me to get this fixed.

Kind regards,

Neeva

Just to let you know, this problem seemed to have disappeared when I had to install SQL Server Express for a completely unrelated reason. I still don't understand it, but oh well..

Error creating new SSIS project

In my local client installation of the BI tools, I get the following error when simply creating an SSIS project and the default empty Package tries to display on the screen.

Index (zero based) must be greater than or equal to zero and less than the size of the argument list.

I can use the Reporting Services designer with no problems, and I can use SSIS from the client tools on the server. It is just on my local PC that I get this error. I have completely uninstalled all the tools and reinstalled with no luck.

PLEASE HELP!

If anyone can help, please reply. I am unable to use SSIS AT ALL right now because a new package will only display this error message. And this is the purchased version, not the evaluation copy.

I know it looks like I'm being a pest by bumping my post again, but I am not able to use SSIS at all on my PC. I HAVE TO get this resolved.

I am on Windows XP Pro fully patched and updated. I had SQL Express on my PC before and have since uninstalled it to see if that would help.

PLEASE HELP!!!

Error creating new push subscription after deleting the existing o

I created a transactional replication publication and pushed a subscriber,
and that works fine. I deleted existing push subscription in the publisher
with enterprise manager, and also deleted automatically generated replication
jobs related to that push subscription. I noticed that the push subscription
was not automatically deleted in the subscriber as it should. Moreover, when
I created a new push subscription with the same article, I encountered an
error. The error message is as following.
Subscriptions were created successfully at the following subscribers.

SQL Server Enterprise manager could not start the snapshot agent.
Error 14262:the specified @.job_id … does not exist.
Please help.
The error indicates that a replication agent job was deleted accidentally.
When this issue occurs, the most efficient way would be rebuilding the
replication from scratch.

Error creating new database diagrams in upgraded database

(I'm using MS SQL Server Management Studio, SQL Server version 9.0.3054)
I restored a database originally created in sql 2000 to a sql 2005 server. I
also set the compatibility level to sql 2005 (90). The owner is sa. When I
try to create a new database diagram, I first get the message "This database
does not have one or more of the support objects required to use database
diagramming. Do you wish to create them?" I click Yes to that. Then I get
the message "Violation of UNIQUE KEY constraint 'UK_principal_name'. Cannot
insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.sysdiagrams'. The statement has been
terminated. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 2627)".
I can create diagrams for AdventureWorks. Is there a way to fix this other
than recreating the database from scratch as sql 2005?
Thanks.

Thankfully, the diagramming objects are benign and you can remove them with
little ill effect. I'm not sure if some of these will fail if they didn't
come over from 2000, but the whole script should run and then you should be
able to say yes to that prompt sufccessfully.
DROP PROCEDURE sp_upgraddiagrams;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_helpdiagrams;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_helpdiagramdefinition;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_creatediagram;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_renamediagram;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_alterdiagram;
GO
DROP PROCEDURE sp_dropdiagram;
GO
DROP FUNCTION fn_diagramobjects;
GO
DROP TABLE sysdiagrams;
GO
I asked for a button to facilitate this a long time ago, but not too many
people seem to think it is a good idea.

|||I was unable to reproduce this issue, btw. I created a database in 2000,
created a diagram, backed it up, then restored on 2005, set a valid owner,
changed cmptlevel to 90, expanded database diagrams node in object explorer,
said yes to the prompt, and I was able to modify the existing diagram and
create a new one. How many diagrams had you created in 2000 before you
backed up the database and restored it in 2005?

|||I tried that script, running it against my database (and against master (!)
just in case). None of those procedures existed, I think. I got this for each
one:
Cannot drop the procedure 'sp_upgraddiagrams', because it does not exist or
you do not have permission. (I'm running as 'SA' by the way.)
I tried creating diagrams again but got the same error.
I only had 4 or 5 diagrams, which I don't really care about. I just wanna
make some new ones.
Thanks for the quick response.

Ignore that, I need more sleep.
|||Oh, and what happens when you run:
SELECT * FROM dbo.sysdiagrams
?

Sounds like there is some funny data in dtproperties, which causes the
index violation. While it could be interesting to file a bug for it,
the quickest way to get it working is probably to simply drop
dtproperties:
DROP TABLE dtproperties

|||Erland, the table that is coming up with the error is sysdiagrams, not
dtproperties. At least, that's what the error message in the OP said.
