Error exporting report with subreport

Hi!
I'm getting this error when trying to export (to anything pdf, excel,
tiff...) a report with a subreport included. It's a linked subreport (with
that I mean it takes two parameters from the main report as inparameters) The
subreport is really simple and I have even tested with an empty subreport
with the same result.
Error msg:
An unexpected error occurred in Report Processing. (rsUnexpectedError)
I have other reports with subreports included that goes just fine to export.
Anyone with similar problems and a possible solution?
Regards,
/MattiasHi again!
I found the answer of my own problem and it seems to be a bug in RS.
RS crashes when trying to export a report when the following conditions are
true:
1. You are using a table.
2. The HideDuplicates property is used on a detail cell in this table.
3. The table contains a subreport.
This occurs no matter what export format you choose.
Do you RS guys at MS know about this?

Unfortunately I haven't heard of a fix and SQL Server 2005 seems to have the
same issue.
I just asked here if I can submit a case to Premier Support.
I will be submitting the case any day now so I'll keep you posted if I hear
something.

So Microsoft has confirmed that it is a bug.
But they have no idea when it will be fixed, probably next service pack.
You can get the output if you render it through the SOAP webservice though.

Error Expanding tables in Linked Server to Pervasive

Pleeeease help? I get an error when expanding the Tables object under linked servers in Enterprise Manager on a MSSQL2000 server.

I have a standard install of the Pervasive.SQL V8 data engine and DemoData db on my local PC. The SQL Server is also on my local PC.

I manage to create the Linked Server using the MSSQL Enterprise Manager. I used the following configuration:

Provider Name: Pervasive.SQL V8 OLE DB Provider
Product Name: Pervasive.SQL V8
Data source: DemoData
Provider string: <blank>
Location: workstation03
Catalog: <blank>

However when I try to expand the tables object under Linked Servers in the Enterprise manager I get the following error.

Error 7311: Could not obtain the schema rowset for the OLE DB provider 'UNKNOWN'. The provider supports the interface, but retuns a failure code when it is used. OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'UNKNOWN' IDBSchemaRowset::GetRowset returned 0x80040155 ].

How would I fix this?

Thank you.moving to microsoft sql server forumsql

Error deleting database

Hi,
We currently have Great Plains 7.5 linked to our SQL 2000 server. I'm now
having a problem removing a database that was added (via Gt.Plains first). An
error message telling me that SQL failed to install the database correctly
appeared, but whenever I try to remove it from Great Plains I get an error,
even though I'm logged into GP and SQL with full admin rights:
From Great Plains I get:
"[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server] Could not locate entry in
sysdatabases for database 'TEST'. No entry found with that name. Make sure
that the name is entered correctly."
When clicking OK, the following appears
"The stored procedure smCreateCompanyDeleteButtonCHG returned the following
results: DBMS: 911, Great Plains: 0."
If you click MORE, you get:
"Please consult the alert message documentation provided by your DBMS."
So, I can't remove the TEST database. Now, I'm relatively new to SQL 2000,
so I've been finding snippets of info on the web, and so far I have tried a
few things including running the following from Query analyzer:
SELECT CATALOG_NAME from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.SCHEMA
But, that has not shown the rogue database name. But, when you are in
Gt.Plains the TEST database is listed in the 'logon to' options, even though
it's not listed anywhere in SQL.
So, how do I remove all traces of a database (as full systems admin) in
Gt.PLains and SQL since it failed?
Many thanks
John
I think you have to post this in the GP group or contact GP support. It
looks like the database is not there in SQL Server, but somehow GP is
thinking the db is there.

Error creating linked server to Excel

Hi,
Please help, I'm getting desperate. Any ideas warmly welcomed!
I'm trying to read from a basic excel file (1000 or so rows from
column A) but am having problems. The code I am using is:

Declare @.Return Int
SET NOCOUNT ON

Exec @.Return= [master]..[sp_addlinkedServer] 'READ_XLS', 'EXCEL',
'Microsoft.Jet.OleDB.4.0' , 'e:\jsbackup\RACodes.xls',
NULL, 'EXCEL 8.0'
print 'set up Return : ' + convert(varchar(10),@.Return)
--NB E: is the drive as seen oon the server

EXEC sp_addlinkedsrvlogin
@.rmtsrvname = 'READ_XLS',
@.useself = 'true'
print 'login Return : ' + convert(varchar(10),@.Return)

When I try to read from the (one) excel sheet in the file, via
Select * from [READ_XLS]...RACodes$
or to list what tables/sheets are available, via
exec sp_tables_ex 'READ_XLS'

I get the following error:

OLE DB provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' reported an error.
Authentication failed.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: Cannot start your application. The
workgroup information file is missing or opened exclusively by another
user.]
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0'
IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80040e4d: Authentication
failed.].

What am I missing?

*Many* thanks in advance.
AndyA few things to check:

Do you have the .xls file already open?
Is e:\jsbackup\RACodes.xls a server path?
I recall that you have to set named ranges for it to appear as tables
in Excel.

I don't know whether it helps but I have written an addin for Excel
that can push the data out from Excel (you are trying to pull it in
from the database). If you can reconsider your design and push it from
Excel you can perhaps use it.

SQL*XL is an addin for Excel that let you manage your database from
Excel. It is an end-user tool but it also lets you record all actions
as a macro (VBA) and therefore you can code/script applications with
it.

Have a look at SQL*XL at www.oraxcel.com

Error connecting to Oracle via linked server after SP2 installatio

We have a test SQL Server box configured with the following:
Windows 2000, SP4
SQL Server: 8.00.944
Oracle Client Tools: 9.2.0.1
Microsoft ODBC for Oracle: 2.573.9030.00
We built a linked server to a 3rd party Oracle application. We used the
standard "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" drvier from the drop down
list. We created views using this linked server and they worked fine.
However, after installing SP2 of Reporting Services, we now receive the
following error when we attempt to use the views:
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server][OLE/DB provider returned
error message: Oracle client and networking components not found. These
components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle
Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation.
Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.]
We use a free SQL Tool called "Toad" to access the Oracle environment. This
tool uses the same Oracle Client Tools referred to in the error message.
This tool continues to function normally.
We really want to take advantage of some of the new features in SP2, but we
can't deploy this on our production SQL Reporting box until we get this issue
resolved. Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Grande ApplicationsHello,
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle and Microsoft ODBC Driver for Oracle
are not supported with any Oracle versions later than 8i. For more
information, click the following article number to view the article in the
Microsoft Knowledge Base:
244661 Limitations of Microsoft Oracle ODBC Driver and OLE DB Provider
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;244661
Therefore, the cause of the issue is not related to the reporting service.
If you want to use Oracle version 9i, you can use the following settings in
step 3 of this procedure in the article 280106:

Thanks much for your response. We were able to resolve the problem by
restarting the SQL server (SQL Server service); however, we have discovered
from others that this resolution has been known to provide only a temporary
fix.
Do you know where I can find a list of all of the files (and file versions)

to us.
Thank you.

Error connecting to Oracle 9i Database using SQL Linked Server : MSDAORA Error

Hi,

I have setup a linked server that intermittently crashes.

It connects to an Oracle Database on an alternate server. My tnsnames.ora file is correct and the Linked server does periodically work....

I am not sure what triggers it but it crashes and gives the following error:

Error 7399: OLE DB provider 'MSDAORA' reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.

OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDAORA' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: The provider did not give any information about the error.].

Can anyone help with this please ?

Which is the correct configuration in terms of drivers to use and vendor. Are there any registry settings that need changing?

Thanks,

Simon.

Hi Simon,
have you tried the ORACLE's OLE DB provider? For Oracle version later than 8, it's recommended that you try Oracle's own OLE DB provider.

Thanks.

Thanks,

Simon.

Error at displaying Subreport

Hi,
i have a problem with a subreport: I created a main report and included a
subreport. The Subreport is linked with the main report over a String field.
The column in the main report has the type uniqueidentifier in the sql-server
database.
if the column in the main report has a value, the subreport works fine. but
if the value is empty, i get the error 'message: error: subreport could not
be shown' in the report and in the visual studio output window i get the
following message:
The expression for the subreport â'subreport1â' contains an error: Object
reference not set to an instance of an object.
Can someone help me how to avoid this error? Here's how I did it:
First, in the dataset of the main report, make sure that the String field
always returns a value, also when the uniqueidentifier column is empty.
Use coalesce(convert(varchar(36), column1), '0') in your query string in
stead of just column1 (supposing that the uniqueidentifier column is called
'column1', and that you are using SQL Server as data source. I dont' know
what other products support the coalesce function).
Next, use an Iif clause as query string for the subreport, like ...
= Iif(Parameters!myparam.value <> '0', "select col1, col2 from table1 where
convert(varchar(36), lookupcolumn) = '" + Parameters!myparam.value + "'",
"select 'unknown', 'unknown')
Lookupcolumn should be the name of the column that matches with the value in
your main report.
