error during .NET Remoting

Hi

When I run the reports in my .NET application, I get an error message when I attempt to use .NET remoting while processing a report :

"The type CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.FormatEngine in Assembly CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine, Version=11.2.3300.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=692fbea5521e1304 is not marked as serializable."

I checked the net for solution, and the work around for this error message, use Report Web Services, or the Crystal Enterprise Report Application Server (CE RAS) or Crystal Enterprise (CE) .NET SDK in your application.

But this will be a major change in the application.

Has anybody else got the same error and found a simpler solution ?

Thanking in advanceSee if you find answer here

error creating publication

When I am in my publications folder and I attempt to add
a new publication, I get... 'Error 5: [SQL-DMO]Code
Execution exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION' after I
click next for the first time. If I click OK in the
error box, there are no publication databases listed.
HELP!!!!
Some times EM gets confused with all the caching it does.
Can you try to create the publication using the stored procedures?

Error Copying from 2000 to 2005

Hello. I'm getting a frustrating error trying to copy a database from SQL

Make sure SQLServer domain user you are running SQL SERVER on new

domain account to Local Administrator group on the old server.

I searched support for the error pulling up only KB:297104 which says that this can happen when transaction log files exceed 4GB. However, the T-Log in this example is only 50MB. It also says the error is fixed by SP1 and I have SP3a. There's also a worka
round which involves setting the trace flag to 3111, but that didn't seem to make a difference either.
Ideas?
What is the actual backup command your using?

have SP3a. There's also a workaround which involves
setting the trace flag to 3111, but that didn't seem to
make a difference either.

Error attempting restore of full/differential backup

I am running the following script to attempt a restore of a differential backup:

RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks
FROM DISK='C:\SQL2005_Backups\AutoBackups\AdventureWorks.bak'
WITH
NORECOVERY
GO
RESTORE DATABASE AdventureWorks
FROM DISK='C:\SQL2005_Backups\AutoBackups\AdventureWorksDiff.bak'
WITH RECOVERY
GO

I thought this was the way to do it. It does restore the full backup, but on the attempt to restore the differential backup, I get the following error:

Msg 3136, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

This differential backup cannot be restored because the database has not been restored to the correct earlier state.

Msg 3013, Level 16, State 1, Line 1

RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally.

Does anyone know what this means? Do I have to use "with recovery" on the first restore? (The sample I took this from used "with norecovery")

The original backups were done with SQL Agent scheduled jobs. The script for the full backup is:

BACKUP DATABASE AdventureWorks
TO DISK='C:\SQL2005_Backups\AutoBackups\AdventureWorks.bak'

The script for the differential backup is:

BACKUP DATABASE AdventureWorks
TO DISK='C:\SQL2005_Backups\AutoBackups\AdventureWorksDiff.bak'
WITH DIFFERENTIAL, INIT

All I can say is, it's a good thing I am testing this out with non-critical data, because I obviously don't know what I am doing. (Sorry, I'm primarily a programmer, not a DBA) Can anyone help?

Thanks

Are you running SQL 2000 or 2005, because you can't restore AdventureWorks on SQL 2000?|||I am running SQL 2005 -- sorry, forgot to mention.|||I discovered the problem. In my differential backup

BACKUP DATABASE AdventureWorks
TO DISK='C:\SQL2005_Backups\AutoBackups\AdventureWorksDiff.bak'
WITH DIFFERENTIAL, INIT

I should not be using "INIT".

I thought that since you just use the last differential backup file, it would make sense to overwrite it every time, so I put in the INIT. However, it doesn't work. You have to have all the differential files saved, even though you only use the last one.

It doesn't make sense to me, but it appears to be the answer, because when I do it that way the restore works.
